Green Jobs: Frustration with Neoliberals over ‘Industrial Policy’; Carl Davidson; Progressive Democrats of America – PA 4th CD Chapter; February 14, 2011.

The leadership of Progressive Democrats of America – PA 4th CD Chapter consists of Tina Shannon (chairperson), Randy Shannon (treasurer), Robert Schmetzer (vice president), Peter Deutsch (secretary), and Carl Davidson (webmaster and perhaps unofficial leader), a self-described Marxist who once “tr[ied] to create a new communist party.”  They also appear to be the leaders of Beaver County Peace Links.  The Shannons were also leaders of the apparently-defunct Beaver County Coalition for Social Justice.  In the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CCDS) [originally a splinter group of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA)], Mr. Davidson is a co-chair and the Shannons are members of the CCDS national coordinating committee.  Robert Schmetzer is Democrat party local town chair for South Heights.

Though it’s a long read (3,500+ words, about seven 8.5”x11” pages), I recommend everyone read the subject article so you can draw your own conclusions.  I also recommend you read the discussion of the article on Mr. Davidson’s Facebook page.  One thing you’ll note is how the contributors appear to have convinced themselves President Obama isn’t really a leftist.  These comments tell us far more about the authors than Mr. Obama.

My summary of the article is fairly short; there’s nothing new here.  It’s all about the never-ending leftist effort to get government to implement a planned economy.  This time the focus is on mythological “green jobs” and “regulating markets.”  That planned economies never work doesn’t deter these folks because their publicly-stated goals are not the same as their underlying goal of increasing government control/power at the expense of individual liberty.  Should leftists find a new – and what they think is a “better” - means to their end, they will drop “green jobs” in a heartbeat and move to push their new cause du jour.
