Headline: Anti-Semitic, Warmongering Progressive Democrats of America – PA 12th CD and Beaver County Peace Links support an anti-Semitic warmonger in Virginia race; Carl Davidson; Progressive Democrats of America – PA 12th CD Chapter; October 12, 2012.

OK, that’s not a real headline, but is what we’d likely read about U.S. Army Col. Wayne Powell (Ret.) and those who support him if he were the Republican candidate instead of a Democrat.  As far as accuracy goes, though, the faux title is about as correct as the real title, “A Solid Debate between a Progressive Democrat and a Top GOP Rightwinger.”

The video to which the piece refers is here.

If as you read the piece something doesn’t seem right, be sure to endure it to the end to find out why.

You can learn more about BCR’s leftster management here.

“Virginia Democrat Wayne Powell came out swinging Monday and remained on the offensive throughout the first debate in the race for Virginia’s 7th congressional district seat, accusing U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of abdicating his role as a leader of Congress and repeatedly slamming him for his lack of military service, while the visibly agitated six-term incumbent labored to furiously fend off the flurry of attacks.”

[RWC] We have a new entry in the leftyspeak lexicon.  Appearing cool, calm, and collected means “visibly agitated …”  Should you subject yourself to viewing the video, you’ll find it’s Mr. Powell who gesticulates and waves his arms around for a good part of the debate.

“Mr. Powell’s campaign has vowed to frame Mr. Cantor to both his constituents and the entire country as an unapologetic partisan irrevocably beholden to large corporations and special interest groups — and the former Army colonel wasted no time in lobbing grenades at the Republican incumbent Monday evening in Richmond before a national audience on C-SPAN2.”

[RWC] You probably noticed that within the first two paragraphs the piece uses military lingo (“lobbing grenades”), mentioned Mr. Powell’s military service twice, and “slammed” Mr. Cantor “for his lack of military service.”  That seems kind of odd for so-called “antiwar” groups like BCR and its Beaver County Peace Links affiliate.

As a reminder, when Bill Clinton (a real-life draft evader) ran against decorated World War II combat veterans (George H.W. Bush in 1992 and Bob Dole in 1996), lack of military service wasn’t an issue.  The same was true in 2008 when John McCain (Vietnam POW for over five years) ran against Barack Obama.  You may recall some folks on the left even made fun of the way Mr. McCain carried his arms, until they learned his wartime injuries were the reason.

“‘He never talks about working people — he only talks about business people,’ Mr. Powell said in the hour-long forum hosted by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.  These people are suffering — I’ve seen them all the time … you’re so far removed from reality, I don’t think you even know what a small business is except for a hedge fund.’”

[RWC] My take on Mr. Powell’s performance is he simply rattled off lefty talking points and innuendo.

Since you hung around to the end, you deserve to know why something didn’t feel right about the article.  Though not presented as such, what you read was the Powell campaign’s self-assessment of the debate.  You’ll find Mr. Davidson lifted the comments from the first three paragraphs of “Powell assails Cantor over business, military in congressional debate” without mentioning the source.  In fairness, it’s possible Mr. Davidson wrote the original piece for the Powell campaign and simply forgot to tell his readers.  Unfortunately, I didn’t know any of this before I did the critique.  I wouldn’t have wasted my time had I known the source.

I don’t know if Mr. Davidson and other BCR officers who commented actually viewed the video.  Just so you know, I watched the entire video to see if I could find what BCR officers were talking about (when I thought Mr. Davidson was the author) and my comments are my own.
