Below is a detailed critique of the subject piece.

“Friends, You’ve [sic] probably all heard about the 50th Anniversary March on Washington by now.  At first it seemed the March might be a well-deserved but merely historic commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr’s magnificent I Have a Dream speech.”

[RWC] Perhaps the best example of “successful” propaganda is the notion Democrats are the friends of minorities.  History tells a different story, however.  The Democrat party is the party of slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, the KKK, World War II ethnicity/race-based internment camps, and so on.  In 1957, Republican President Eisenhower sent the U.S. Army to enforce civil rights when Democrat Governor Orval Faubus used the Arkansas National Guard to block black students from attending a Little Rock high school.  Republicans delivered the votes for cloture of the Democrat-led filibuster of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.  In the Senate, 82% of Republicans voted for the act while only 69% of Democrats supported it.  Of the “nay” votes, 78% were by Democrats.  In the House, 80% of Republicans voted for the act while only 61% of Democrats supported it.  Of the “nay” votes, 74% were by Democrats.  You may recall Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy (D) (President John F. Kennedy’s brother) authorized the FBI to wiretap MLK during the JFK (D) administration and it continued into the Lyndon B. Johnson (D) administration.

So, what about the BCR?  I don’t know the members personally but I’m always suspicious of people who see their fellow Americans as members of classes and grievance/victim groups instead of as individuals.  Please read “Lefty race baiters,” “Democrats – The party of civil rights – not,” and “Republicans – Civil Rights.”

“As time passed though, it became clear that many folks were quite aware of how relevant Dr. King’s words were to our present time.  We are having our voting rights curtailed.  We need jobs.  The important institutions of civil society, such as schools and social services are being cut and even eliminated.”

[RWC] When leftists say “We are having our voting rights curtailed,” they mean voters being required to present a photo ID to vote.  Oddly, President Obama is all for voter ID in Kenya, but not the U.S.  Why?

Having actual “voting rights curtailed” is OK, though, when done by leftists.  Voter intimidation in Philadelphia in 2008 by the New Black Panthers (NBP) was caught on video.  In summary, the Department of Justice (DOJ) received a summary judgment against the NBP members and all that remained was sentencing.  Conviction in hand, however, the Department of (Social) Justice [DO(S)J] dropped the case.  In protest, a DOJ attorney (J. Christian Adams) working the case resigned.  In response, the Civil Rights Commission (CRC) launched an investigation and held hearings.  The DO(S)J refused to honor CRC subpoenas and that’s where the investigation died.

“Then the incident in Florida made painfully clear to our entire nation how strongly racism still exists.  Trayvon Martin is a black teen-ager cut down before his life was even launched, and he is only one of many with more to come.  The whole country now must confront the truth about ALEC, the right wing think tank creating harmful & divisive legislation for corporations to foist upon Republican State lawmakers.  We must also face the fact that Stand Your Ground laws are in place throughout the country allowing scared racists to confront those they perceive as different and dangerous and kill them if they feel threatened.”

[RWC] Here’s a previous BCR piece on the Martin/Zimmerman case.  To date, though, I haven’t seen BCR write about the beating death of a white W&J football player by at least three black men.

Mrs. Shannon tells us “Trayvon Martin is a black teen-ager” but fails to describe George Zimmerman, the man who shot Mr. Martin in self-defense.  Why not?  Mr. Zimmerman presented lefties with a dilemma because he’s mixed race.  Mr. Zimmerman’s father is white, his mother is a Peruvian immigrant, and his great-grandfather was black-skinned.  Further, Mr. Zimmerman describes himself as Hispanic on his driver’s license and voter registration card.  As a result, lefties had to decide which group(s) to throw under the bus.  That’s why we got “white Hispanic.”  As long as they used “white” as a modifier, “Hispanic” was irrelevant.  From here on out, should President Obama now be referred to as a black white?  See how complicated it gets when we see people as members of grievance/victim groups instead of as individuals?

Let’s get back to Mr. Martin.  Mrs. Shannon says Mr. Martin “is only one of many with more to come.”  Sadly, this is true, but not in the way Mrs. Shannon would like us to believe.  What Mrs. Shannon failed to note is “The overwhelming majority of homicides are still intra-racial -- whites killing whites or blacks killing blacks.”  As of 2009, black-on-white murders were 8% of all homicides while white-on-black killings amounted to 4%.  Intra-racial killings were 83% of total homicides.

What is “the truth about ALEC” “The whole country now must confront?”  ALEC is the American Legislative Exchange Council.  There are “think tanks” for every ideology and they all propose legislation – including initial drafts – to their political/ideological allies.  I’m sure it was an honest omission when Mrs. Shannon didn’t mention leftist think tanks like the Brookings Institution, Center for American Progress, and so on.  If you think members of Congress or their staffs wrote the bulk of the Obamacare bill, think again.  When think tanks, activist groups, etc. propose legislation that would benefit businesses like Mrs. Shannon’s, does she complain?  You may recall Mrs. Shannon protested (County workers, others protest state budget impasse; J.D. Prose; Beaver County Times; September 1, 2009) when a budget impasse threatened her business because the kerfuffle threatened taxpayer subsidies to her customers.  As for Mrs. Shannon’s use of “corporation,” most (all?) leftsters use “corporation” as a synonym for “business,” though I’m sure they would disagree in public.  As with all leftyspeak, it allows lefties to mislead people by implying one thing (big, evil company) but meaning another [all businesses (except those union-owned, “good lefty” owned, and labor unions), whether big or “mom & pop”].  FYI, a Pennsylvania corporation can be as small as one person.

As for “harmful & divisive legislation,” EVERY piece of legislation is divisive.  Otherwise, the votes would be unanimous.  Should legislation cease to be divisive, we’ll be in big trouble.  To BCR, anything not to the left of the left is “harmful & divisive.”

The “harmful & divisive legislation” comment is interesting for another reason.  Consider the following exchange between a random lefty and Mrs. Shannon’s husband (Randy) on another BCR member’s Facebook wall (9/27/11).

Random lefty: “Capitalism has to go.  Merely taxing/regulating always fails in the end.”

Mr. Shannon: “Divide and conquer.  Take down the crazy bankers first.” [In a later thread on his own Facebook page (8/5/13), Mr. Shannon wrote, “capitalism is killing us.”]

During his push for Obamacare, Mr. Obama demonized doctors by claiming they were unnecessarily removing tonsils for the money and were raking in all kinds of big bucks for amputations.  The objective?  To pit the rest of us against doctors.  Remember 2004/2008 presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) and his “two Americas?” And who’s responsible for the 99% vs. 1% BS?  Though he may not have personally started the Occupy groups, Mr. Obama’s comments and those of other Democrats indicate their support.  A hallmark of the left is to split us along lines of ethnicity, income, sex, skin color, et cetera and then pit the groups against each other.

Contrary to Mrs. Shannon’s assertions, the Martin/Zimmerman incident wasn’t about racism or Florida’s SYG law.  It was about self-defense.  Though lefties and the press talked ceaselessly about SYG, Florida’s “stand your ground” law was not involved in the Martin/Zimmerman incident.

“So, on top of all the economic and political problems we face, laws like this are being implemented that destroy the very fabric of our society.”

[RWC] What about programs (food stamps, Medicaid, welfare, etc.) that enable dissolution of traditional family units?  Don’t they “destroy the very fabric of our society?”

“It’s time to say, enough.

“Folks all over the country are reserving buses and getting their friends & family to go to Washington to deliver this message.

“We have reserved & filled 4 buses in Beaver County already.  Enough people are expressing interest that we have reserved a 5th bus.  We are currently raising funds to pay for it.

“The cost of the 5th bus is $2400.  One of you has already very generously donated $500.  Only $1900 more to go.  Please donate whatever you can.  If everyone gives $10 or $20, we’ve got this.

“Please sign up to go on the bus also.  I think this March shaping up to be a historic event all on it’s [sic] own.

“I often hear people ask, ‘When are we in this country going to get fed up & take to the streets?’  Good question.  It might be August 24th.”

“Let me know.”

[RWC] Isn’t that what the Occupy “movement” did with the assistance of labor union management and other lefties?

I hope those “in this country … to get fed up & take to the streets” will not be whom Mrs. Shannon expects or wants.
