J. D. Prose – 1/31/09

Political Prose: Rep. Boy Wonder shaking things up with local Dems; J. D. Prose; Beaver County Times; January 31, 2009.

As you read this opinion column, keep in mind Mr. Prose wears at least one other hat for the Times.  Mr. Prose is also a reporter covering political stories.  Ask yourself this.  When a pundit gives his political opinions in one part of the paper, can he be trusted to report politics objectively elsewhere in the paper?  After all, would a person whose opinion is 1+1 equals 3 report 1+1 really equals 2?

Rather than subject you to the whole column, I’ll focus on the section dealing with Rush Limbaugh.

“BIG MOUTH STRIKES

“Rush ‘Big Mouth’ Limbaugh hates America.  That’s all we can conclude after he wished President Obama fails.  Isn’t that the same logic Bush defenders used against his critics?

“Anyway, our favorite comment on Big Mouth came from freshman Democratic U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida: ‘Rush Limbaugh is a has-been hypocrite loser who craves attention.  His right-wing lunacy sounds like Mikhail Gorbachev extolling the virtues of communism.  Limbaugh actually was more lucid when he was a drug addict.  If America ever did 1 percent of what he wanted us to do, then we’d all need pain killers.’

“Looks like the Boy Wonder has competition for the Freshman Legislator of the Year Award.”

Wow, between Messrs. Grayson and Prose, this one has it all!  Name-calling, personal attacks, and misrepresentation.  What Mr. Limbaugh actually said was that he hoped Mr. Obama would fail in his attempts to implement leftist policies, like the current so-called “economic stimulus” bill that’s nothing but a leftist spending spree.  Mr. Limbaugh also said he hopes Mr. Obama succeeds in implementing policies that will make the U.S. successful.  Funny how those “nuances” didn’t make it into the column, isn’t it?

As I’ve written before, it’s a shame Mr. Prose feels he needs to go down the well-traveled road of people like Lynn Cullen, Jim Quinn, and so on.
