Political Prose: Benedict Shelley? Blythe says her critics are wrong; J. D. Prose; Beaver County Times; May 6, 2009.

As you read this opinion column, keep in mind Mr. Prose wears at least one other hat for the Times.  Mr. Prose is also a reporter covering political stories.  Ask yourself this.  When a pundit gives his political opinions in one part of the paper, can he be trusted to report politics objectively elsewhere in the paper?  After all, would a person whose opinion is 1+1 equals 3 report 1+1 really equals 2?

Rather than subject you to the whole column, I’ll focus on the section entitled “JEEPERS CREEPERS.”

First, Mr. Prose refers to an opponent as a Nazi.  This is s tired old tactic, but when will lefties like Mr. Prose realize – or admit – Nazis are/were on the left end of the political spectrum?

Second, Mr. Prose didn’t tell Mr. Rove “to shut up.”  Mr. Prose wrote, “Can someone please muzzle this hypocrite?”  Elsewhere that same day, Mr. Prose wrote, “We’ve [Mr. Prose] spent our life defending freedom of speech, and we’d die to keep it” while concurrently telling opponents to “shut up” or be “muzzle[d].”  And Mr. Prose accuses others of hypocrisy?  For his sake, let’s hope Mr. Prose’s windows are made of break-proof glass.

Third, Mr. Prose quoted Ms. McCain as saying “It’s very unprecedented for someone like Karl Rove or Dick Cheney to be criticizing the president.”  Whom do they think they are kidding?  I guess neither Mr. Prose nor Ms. McCain consider Mr. & Mrs. Clinton, Al Gore, and Jimmy Carter to be “someone like Karl Rove or Dick Cheney.”
