Bernard Rabik – 1/26/18

Ask Attorney Bernie: So what, if you know your enemy is acting in ‘bad faith’; Bernard Rabik (BR); Beaver County Times; January 26, 2018.

According to the BCT, “Bernie Rabik of Hopewell Township is an attorney and former Beaver County solicitor.  He writes a column on legal matters for The Times.”

I found evidence of plagiarism when I reviewed BR’s piece “Ask Attorney Bernie: Zoning in Brighton Township, none in Houston.”

Finally, BR appears to be just another lefty pundit.  BR’s column following this was an anti-Trump rant entitled “Does the truth matter anymore?”

The review below is from my comments on the BCT website.  That’s why the format is not my usual.  There’s a Part 1 and Part 2 because the BCT website has a limit on the length of individual comments.

Part 1

In Mr. Rabik’s (BR) inaugural piece of 7/1/2016, BR wrote, “Note that none of the answers to your questions will be editorials expressing the opinions of The Times through its editorial writers.”  While BR’s articles may or may not “be editorials expressing the opinions of The Times,” they are loaded with his politics.

For example, while BR wrote, “A December [CNN/SSRS] polling found only 27 percent of respondents agreeing that President Trump and the Republicans made ‘a good faith effort to cooperate with the minority party’ on their tax bill,” BR chose not to mention Democrats didn’t do much better at 37%.

I can see why in-progress work would be kept “secret.”  Publicly debating an under-construction proposal day in and day out does nothing except provide opportunities for politicians to run to the nearest camera and vent about the bill’s latest alleged outrage.  In any case, the bill’s content becomes public when it’s presented for consideration by the full House.

Part 2

Wasn’t it then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) who said about Obamacare, “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy?”

Regarding Obamacare “passed with concessions to its opponents,” PolitiFact says, “Most of these amendments [‘technical in nature’] were not particularly meaningful, though, so calling it a bipartisan enactment effort remains a stretch.”

Re the comment about increasing the budget deficit, I covered that in comments to a letter elsewhere on this [BCT] website.
