Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.

“The Pennsylvania Legislature is well below the national average when it comes to the number of women serving as representatives and senators.

“Overall, the commonwealth ranks 46th, and only Alabama, South Carolina and Kentucky elect fewer women to their state legislatures.

“If you think about it, the lack of women in the General Assembly goes a long way toward explaining the junior-high-school bullying that passes for leadership in the House and Senate.”

[RWC] Gee, there’s nothing sexist about that comment, is there?

“After all, without the civilizing effect of women, boys will be boys, no matter what their age or position in life.”

[RWC] I guess since the Times depends so much on the Associated Press for its news that the Times has not observed the behavior of women elected to office.  Women are neither better nor worse than men.  Have you heard what comes out of the mouths of Corrine Brown (D-FL), Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), et cetera?  For example, in February 2004 Ms. Brown told a Hispanic Bush administration official that Hispanic and white men “all look alike to me.”  Yeah, Ms. Brown brings a “civilizing effect” – not.
