Debtor nation; Editorial; Beaver County Times; January 26, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.

“Business Week magazine reports Asian central banks, led by Japan and China, bought up more than $250 billion in U.S. bonds, particularly Treasury securities.

“That means that around 10 percent of the federal government’s budget is being financed by those nations.

“Sleep well, America.”

[RWC] Yet another example of a “drive by” attack.  The implication is that what the editorial said was bad, but the editorial never says that and certainly doesn’t provide support for that position.

What if I wrote a column that simply said, “My sources tell me convicted felons spend thousands of dollars on their Times subscriptions.  That means that around 10% of the Times readership are felons.  Sleep well, Beaver County?”
