Stay the course; Editorial; Beaver County Times; August 9, 2005.

This is the second idiotic editorial on this topic in three days.  The first was entitled “Cut and run.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.

“In light of the above editorial, we’d like to repeat our stand on the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

“Although we believe the Bush administration has blundered badly from start to finish in this needless war, the United States - our nation and its people - has an obligation to stay the course until Iraq is a stable, secure country.

“We must not punish the Iraqi people for the Bush administration’s mistakes.  It is responsible for the chaos in Iraq today.  It cannot be allowed to declare victory and bug out.

“That means beefing up the U.S. military presence there to make Iraq more secure, even if it takes more years than most of us would like.  That means having the American people make sacrifices in support of that effort.

“We cannot walk away as if nothing has happened.  Too much is at stake, for them and for us.”

[RWC] These guys are amazing.  At every point the Bush administration has made it clear we intend to stay in Iraq until Iraq’s elected government can take care of its security by itself.  Yet the Times wants us to believe the Bush administration wants to bail out on Iraq.  I wonder if the Times published editorials admonishing President Reagan not to go soft on the USSR and communism in general?
