Don’t go there; Editorial; Beaver County Times; January 24, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.

“Reports out of Washington are that President Bush’s State of the Union address will focus on bringing health-care costs under control.

“Uh-oh.

“After the hash the GOP-controlled Congress and the Bush White House made of the Plan D prescription drug plan, do you really believe they’ll have the best interests of the American people in mind?

“Chances are good they’ll only make a bad situation worse, except, of course, for the drug makers, insurance industry and other special interests groups that shower money on them.”

[RWC] Repeating myself for the umpteenth time, I oppose this program on principle because I oppose any government involvement in providing healthcare services.

Also for the umpteenth time, we wouldn’t be reading this editorial if Democrats had pushed through this program.  If there were any criticism, it would likely be something like, “Evil Republicans didn’t allow the program to be as expansive as it should be.”
