Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.


“Boot: To state lawmakers for their failure to adequately fund higher education in Pennsylvania.  One reason it takes so long for some students to finish their education is because tuition costs are high due to lawmakers’ stinginess, with their failure to address the funding needs of the state community college being particularly unforgivable.”

[RWC] Perhaps inadequate education funding is behind the split infinitive. <g>

Leave it to the Times to get it wrong.  The reason tuition is high and increasing faster than the overall cost of living is not due to “lawmakers’ stinginess.”  It’s exactly the opposite.  By heavily subsidizing education, the government has made it impossible for the free market to control tuition.  It’s the same problem we have with healthcare.

Finally, you’ll note editorials like this never tell us what constitutes “adequate” funding.
