Salutes & Boots; Editorial; Beaver County Times; April 17, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.

“Salute: To the effort being made to bring free wireless Internet access - known as Wi-Fi - to downtown Pittsburgh.  The system will use transmitters that would be installed on utility poles.  Wi-Fi backers hope to have the system in place in time for Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game in July.  This is a great idea, but Councilman Bill Peduto has an even better one.  He’s pushing for wireless Internet access for the entire city.  He’s right.  Why not go for the gold?”

[RWC] Did you catch that the editorial never said who would pay for the “free wireless Internet access?”

In the stories I’ve read, the Wi-Fi service wouldn’t be free.  The current proposal apparently has the first two hours of usage free to attract customers.  You pay after the first two hours.
