Salutes & Boots; Editorial; Beaver County Times; April 24, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.

“Salute: To the American people for having a balanced view on how to deal with illegal immigrants.  A Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll found that those surveyed said they would prefer a comprehensive approach to the problem, much like the one that is stalled in the U.S. Senate because of partisan bickering.  Those surveyed did so by an impressive 2-1 margin.  It’s another case of moderates not being heard in today’s divisive political environment.”

[RWC] I have three observations.

First, the editorial didn’t provide any details about the questions asked in the poll or how they were asked.  It didn’t even tell us where to find the details.

Second, when debate is about something the Times likes, it’s “partisan bickering.”  When debate is about something the Times dislikes, it’s “oversight.”

Third, you’re a moderate – whatever that is – if you agree with the Times.
