BCT Editorial – 11/14/06

Civil tongue; Editorial; Beaver County Times; November 14, 2006.

Rather than do a point-by-point critique, I’ll comment only on the first sentence/paragraph, which states the central premise of the editorial.

The editorial leads off with, “We hope that one result of last Tuesday’s election results is that politicians, political operatives and commentators in the media learn to keep a civil tongue.”

Am I the only one who believes this is like the pot calling the kettle black?  Just yesterday, a Times editorial called Defense Sec. Rumsfeld “arrogant” and lied about a well-known fact to impugn his character.  At least one editorial referred to Sec. Rumsfeld as a liar.

Two days ago, another Times editorial referred to “Bush and his henchmen” and called President Bush a “consummate politician … [but] not much else.”

It appears my definition of civility differs a bit from the definition used by the Times.
