Wise words; Editorial; Beaver County Times; March 4, 2007.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.

“It’s pretty bad when a foreign-born former actor understands our representative democracy better than the people running the show.

“In a speech at the National Press Club last week, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger accused Washington leaders Monday of divisiveness and partisanship.

“‘Politics is about compromise.  It is about give-and-take.  Doesn’t anyone here in Washington remember that chapter from their civics book?’ the Republican governor said.  ‘...You can’t catch a socially transmitted disease by sitting down with people who hold ideas different from yours.’

“He’s absolutely right.  Our system of government that can’t function without compromise and moderation.  The sooner our so-called leaders realize that, the better it will be for all of us.”

[RWC] If you’ve been following Times editorials, you know the call to “compromise” is directed solely at conservatives and non-liberal Republicans, and “moderation” means liberalism.

Have you noticed the only “Republicans” the Times tends to quote favorably are liberal Republicans or Republicans who happen to take a position liberals favor?
