This is a rehash of a similar Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial from a couple of days prior, so please see that editorial for most of my comments.

Apparently the following sentence escaped the proofreaders.  In the middle of accusing the Bush administration of abusive conduct regarding the Patriot Act, the editorial conceded, “It’s important to stress that the audit noted there was no indication of criminal misconduct and that shoddy bookkeeping and human error were to blame for the bulk of the problems.”

Maybe it’s just me, but that admission doesn’t seem to support the editorial’s assertion that the Bush administration has a “penchant for secrecy and … disdain for constitutional safeguards.”
