Painful price; Editorial; Beaver County Times; February 15, 2008.

This is another editorial asserting NATO countries are reluctant to assist in Afghanistan because of our war in Iraq, concluding with “It’s just more collateral damage from the Bush administration’s decision to invade Iraq before finishing the business at hand in Afghanistan, where the real enemy — the Taliban and al-Qaida — was.”

I might give this some credibility if some of these countries hadn’t surrendered to terrorists at home, as in the case of Spain.  Let’s also remember these are the same people who portrayed the U.S. as warmongers for deploying defensive weapons in Europe during the 1980s.  Had we listened to these people, it’s likely the USSR would still be alive and “well.”

I could be wrong, but had a Democrat president done exactly what President Bush did, I suspect this editorial would be trashing the reluctant NATO countries.
