BCT Editorial – 4/25/08

Folly; Editorial; Beaver County Times; April 25, 2008.

This editorial uses the tactic of setting up a fictitious straw man and then attacking it.  In this case, the straw man is that proponents of border security believe fences are all we need.  That’s never been the case.  I know of no credible voice on the subject who hasn’t said fences are only a part of the solution, which would include enforcing existing law and eliminating unnecessary roadblocks for legal immigration.  Amnesty for existing illegal aliens should not be on the table.

Note the editorial makes no mention of those whose sole intent is to penetrate our borders to do us harm.  Are we to believe they wouldn’t love borders without obstructions?  Borders aren’t just about curtailing illegal immigration; they are primarily about national security.

Finally, let’s look at this sentence from the penultimate paragraph of the editorial.  “The best way to deal with illegal immigration is to make it as easy as possible for foreign workers to come and go legally.”  Here are a few questions.  Does the Times lock its building doors at night?  And what about the editorial authors?  Do they lock the doors of their homes?
