BCT Editorial – 5/6/08

Budget busts; Editorial; Beaver County Times; May 6, 2008.

Despite the fact the editorial refers to “the nonpartisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities,” you probably won’t be surprised to learn the CBPP isn’t nonpartisan at all.  A look at the CBPP “About us” page reveals an advocacy group that collaborates with the liberal Brookings Institution.  Further, whose quote was the first used by the CBPP to promote itself?  Why Paul Krugman, of course.  For those not familiar with Mr. Krugman, he’s a New York Times opinion columnist who never met a leftist economic policy he didn’t like.

Wikipedia says, “According to New York Times reporter Matt Bai, CBPP is one of three left wing think tanks funded by the Democracy Alliance.  The other two are the Center for American Progress and the Economic Policy Institute.”  I normally take what I read on Wikipedia with a grain of salt, but in this case it appears to be consistent with what I read on the CBPP website.

This abuse of the term nonpartisan is similar to the Times abuse of moderate.  You probably recall Times editorials refer to leftists with 90%+ ADA liberal ratings as moderates.
