BCT Editorial – 6/12/08

Failing grade; Editorial; Beaver County Times; June 12, 2008.

The editorial subtitle is “State Senate committee’s proposal on graduation tests is a welcome setback.”

You may recall the Times has an editorial history of opposing tests to evaluate what kids learn.  Prior to this, the most recent editorial on this topic was “Test happy.”

The editorial says, “These bills are important because they reflect general dissatisfaction with the graduation tests, and not just in the General Assembly.  The Associated Press reported school boards, superintendents and teachers’ unions are opposed to it, too.”  What a rogue’s gallery!  Don’t you just love when government officials and labor union management oppose any attempt to assess their job performance?

I wonder why the editorial failed to note most students probably oppose graduation tests.
