BCT Editorial – 7/16/08

Do your jobs; Editorial; Beaver County Times; July 16, 2008.

The editorial subtitle is “State lawmakers must stop kowtowing to caucus leaders.”

Though the editorial correctly identifies an important issue with our elected representatives, the author apparently fails to see a similar situation when it comes to our elected representatives and “We the people.”

Just as our reps use the “walking around money” slush fund to control other reps, the government uses the tax code to control us average citizens.  That’s why our tax laws are hundreds of pages long.  If the primary purpose of taxes were simply to pay for legitimate limited government functions, tax laws would be very simple.  That’s why income-based taxes are popular with leftists and flat taxes like sales taxes are not.
