Bits and bites; Editorial; Beaver County Times; July 28, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject editorial.

“FROM BAD TO WORSE: The situation continues to deteriorate in Afghanistan, and blame must be placed entirely at the feet of President Bush and his advisers.  Instead of keeping the pressure on the Taliban and al-Qaeda and stabilizing Afghanistan, or at least some semblance of it, they rushed to fight a politically-motivated war with Iraq.  While the United States was distracted in Iraq, the Taliban and al-Qaeda filled that power vacuum in Afghanistan.”

[RWC] Just another example of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

A “politically-motivated war?”  What exactly is the political motivation to get the U.S. into a war?  Of course, the editorial fails to note Congress (with a Democrat-majority Senate) approved the Iraq War Resolution.

You have to love this editorial.  It’s simply more of the “if it’s bad, it’s Bush’s fault; if it’s good, Bush didn’t have anything to do with it” BS.  While the Times has no problem blaming President Bush for what it believes to be missteps in Afghanistan, it gave credit for the Iraq “surge” to our enemies.  My critique of “Bitter legacy” addresses the points I want to cover.
