Top secret; Editorial; Beaver County Times; August 6, 2008.

Maybe I missed something, but shouldn’t the details of our intelligence gathering methods be “Top secret?”

Admittedly I don’t know how these things are supposed to work, but I wasn’t aware executive orders needed consultation with Congress.  In any case, while the executive order was implemented in secret, the White House did attempt to brief Congressional intelligence oversight committees.

Finally, while the editorial talks of “abuse of power,” it doesn’t describe any illegality.  Just as Congress doesn’t have to consult with the White House on certain matters, the executive branch doesn’t have to consult with Congress on everything.  If something illegal was done, that’s one thing.  If someone’s got their underwear in a knot because their feelings were hurt, that’s another.
