Losers; Editorial; Beaver County Times; September 14, 2008.

The editorial states, “Local and state officials and fans did their part. PNC Park opened in 2001 and drew 2,436,139 fans.”

Wow, talk about spin! “Local and state officials [doing] their part.” really means local and state officials overruled the will of the voters. You’ll recall voters said “no” to public funding for construction of PNC Park and Heinz Field. Elected officials “knew better,” however, and provided public financing anyway.

The editorial seems to miss the point that regardless of record, using public dollars to fund private businesses was wrong. I need to correct that comment. The Times doesn’t miss the point; it actually believes it’s OK to spend tax dollars on private businesses.
