BCT Editorial – 10/26/08

Ouch; Editorial; Beaver County Times; October 26, 2008.

This editorial is a virtual rerun of “Comic truth” from only 11 days ago.  Since October 2004, at least 12 Times editorials have cited “The Daily Show” and/or “The Colbert Report” as news sources.  I don’t know if that’s funny or sad.

Finally, did you notice that despite two editorials within 11 days claiming “Republicans … hate half the people in [America],” the Times found no room to address Rep. John Murtha (D-12) referring to Western Pennsylvanians as racists and rednecks?  Ignoring Mr. Murtha’s comment is consistent, however, with how the Times ignored Gov. Ed Rendell’s comment in February 2008 saying, “You’ve got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate.”

I am more surprised about the Times ignoring Mr. Murtha’s comment because logically he had to be talking about Democrats in Western Pennsylvania.  Why?  Republicans won’t vote for Mr. Obama because they are Republicans, not Democrats.  Besides, it was predominantly Republicans who voted for Lynn Swann for governor in 2006.
