BCT Editorial – 11/26/08

Flawed thinking; Editorial; Beaver County Times; November 26, 2008.

The gist of the editorial is the Bush administration is undermining the environment by changing some endangered animal and plant regulations.  The core of the editorial is that politics should not be a factor and “independent scientists” should effectively make these decisions.

And who appoints these “independent scientists” and/or determines which “independent scientists” to believe and which to dismiss?  It’s “the [politically appointed] bureaucrats” and politicians, of course.  Further, “scientists” themselves routinely inject their politics into their allegedly scientific positions.

The idea a recommendation by “independent scientists” takes politics out of a decision is a myth many people, including the Times editorial board, like to hide behind.
