BCT Editorial – 12/2/08

Stacked deck; Editorial; Beaver County Times; December 2, 2008.

The editorial subtitle is “College costs put state students at a disadvantage.”

The editorial whines about the high price of a college education, but doesn’t even attempt to identify the reasons behind the high prices.

In my opinion, the biggest culprit is the government’s huge intrusion in the education market.  Regardless of the underlying intentions, continuing to throw ever-greater amounts of taxpayer dollars at education simply pushes prices higher.  It’s the same thing we see with K-12 education, healthcare, and mass transit.  No matter how much money we throw at education, precious few of us seem to grasp simple economics.
