Today must be “Bash Dick Cheney Day” at the Times. Building on today’s other Cheney-bashing editorial, this editorial is based on a straw man.

If “former Vice President Dick Cheney was being all sunshine and light about the situation in Iraq,” perhaps the editorial author can explain why he apparently never pushed for immediate troop withdrawal. Read the interview transcript and you’ll find Mr. Cheney asserted, “the violence level is down 90 percent. The number of casualties and Iraqis and Americans is significantly diminished,” not that Iraq was pacified.
