BCT Editorial – 5/8/09

Rust removal; Editorial; Beaver County Times; May 8, 2009.

The editorial subtitle is “Top 10 ranking shows that the worst might be behind us.”

Most of the editorial paraphrases or quotes the Site Selection story, so I’ll address only the Times comments.

The editorial asserts, “One reason for this growth is that our region’s old industrial sites, so-called brownfields, are being cleaned up and put back into use.”  Neither the SS story nor the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance made this claim.

The editorial says, “Of course, because air conditioning can’t be uninvented, the southern and southwestern parts of the country are going to grow at a much faster pace …”  The implication is the South’s faster growth is due to weather.  I don’t suppose it has anything to do with a tendency to right-to-work laws, lower taxes, and less unnecessary regulation.

Finally, the editorial didn’t mention how much of the development is subsidized by Pennsylvania taxpayers.
