Whenever the Times talks about “The facts,” your BS alarm should go off.

As for the claims about illegal aliens getting healthcare coverage, the Congressional Research Service reports there’s nothing in the legislation to stop it other than a statement. That is, nothing requires a check to see if a person is here legally. You can make all the statements you want, but they mean nothing if there’s no enforcement mechanism. Oh yeah, Democrats defeated amendments to provide the enforcement mechanisms. Finally, does anyone want to bet a court will rule excluding illegal aliens violates the Constitution or another federal law?

What’s lost in all of this is that much of Mr. Obama’s speech simply repeated previously told falsehoods. You can find some of these false claims in my paper entitled “Healthcare.”
