At least in recent years the Times has been consistently lukewarm toward gambling.  What is surprising is the Times would turn down tax revenue with a comment like “In this case, the end doesn’t justify the means.”  With the exception of taxes that directly affect the Times, I can’t recall the Times ever seeing a tax revenue source it didn’t like.

I’m not a gambler myself, but I see no reason why all forms of gambling should not be legal.  Not because of the tax revenue but because it’s just another form of entertainment.
