BCT Editorial – 10/4/09

Cold War redux; Editorial; Beaver County Times; October 4, 2009.

The editorial said the subject book “should be required reading for policy makers and radio and TV talk-show jingoists, believes the president choices don’t boil down to fighting indefinitely in Afghanistan or pulling out and inviting another 9/11.”  As usual, the Times set up a straw man to attack.  I have to admit I don’t follow all “policy makers and radio and TV talk-show[s],” but I don’t recall any of the ones I have heard claim we had only the two choices the editorial cites.

As for “decapitation, containment and competition” working against the USSR, exactly how many Soviet leaders did we “target for elimination?”  The last I heard, assassinating leaders of foreign countries was against U.S. law.  For now this doesn’t apply to terrorist leaders because they aren’t leaders of a state, but how long will it be before someone says even these guys deserve their day in court?
