Pill poppers; Editorial; Beaver County Times; December 6, 2009.

This critique also covers the companion editorial “No debate.”  As for “No debate,” this position usually indicates a person figures he’ll lose a debate based on facts, history, and logic.  “Fee for service” has become a catchphrase for supporters of a government-run healthcare monopoly.  As you can tell from the editorial, these folks try to convince us “fee for service” and “fee for quality” are mutually exclusive; they are not.  A free market automatically addresses the issue the editorial claims exists.  That said, we don’t have a free market healthcare system, and anyone who supports a government-run healthcare monopoly doesn’t want a free market.

As for “Pill poppers,” in case you missed it, it’s laying the foundation for the government to control our lives even more.  That’s made clear by this excerpt: “The increase would be catastrophic for Medicare, which is already wobbly.  Because baby boomers will swamp Medicare, its spending on diabetes is expected to jump from $45 billion to $171 billion and could exceed current projections for all Medicare costs.”  When it comes to a government-run healthcare monopoly, cost control will be the excuse used to control our decisions.  We’ve already seen that in the ridiculous tobacco taxes (No, I don’t smoke, chew, etc.) and the proposed taxes on sugar-containing drinks.

Please read my paper entitled “Healthcare.”
