BCT Editorial – 12/27/09

Amnesia; Editorial; Beaver County Times; December 27, 2009.

I agree with the editorial’s direction, but the Times has selective concern.  During a high school commencement speech earlier in 2009, then-White House Communications Director Anita Dunn referred to Mao Tse Tung as one of “two of [her] favorite political philosophers.”  (Oddly, the other is Mother Teresa.  I say “oddly” because it’s hard to imagine Mother Teresa and Mao in the same sentence.  Ms. Dunn later claimed she was trying to be ironic, but at no point in the video did she denounce Mao’s actions.)  Later in the speech Ms. Dunn appeared to me to speak positively of Mao’s “plan to basically take China over.”  During a search of Times editorials I found no mention of Ms. Dunn’s remarks about Mao.  Frankly, I’d be more concerned about praise for Mao in the White House than Russians trying to “rehabilitate” Stalin.

Finally, I’m surprised the editorial lumped Hitler (fascist/socialist) with communists Mao, Pol Pot, and Stalin.  I’m surprised because at every opportunity, lefties attempt to dump Hitler on the right.  I guess this (rare?) bit of historical accuracy slipped by the editing process this time.
