BCT Editorial – 2/16/10

No quick cure; Editorial; Beaver County Times; February 16, 2010.

First, note how the editorial is trying to change the historical meaning of “fellow traveler.”  As a reminder, the historical meaning of a fellow traveler is a person who sympathizes with communism without actually being a member of a communist party.  Redefining our language to their needs is a lefty tactic.

Second, the editorial implies Republicans have not made any healthcare-related proposals.  That is incorrect and is a consistent lefty position.  You see, if you present a proposal the left doesn’t like, they ignore it then claim you made no proposal.  That tactic ensures lefties don’t have to debate the pros and cons of your proposal.

Third, there is really no way for true conservatives and true leftists to compromise on a government-run healthcare monopoly.  Ignoring the unconstitutionality of the lefty proposals, any concessions by the right would simply push us further down the road to a government-run, taxpayer-funded healthcare monopoly and in a few years the lefties would be back asking for more.

Fourth, after about 350 words, what’s missing?  If you noticed the editorial didn’t suggest a solution, you’re right.  Though Times editorials in this century appear to support a government-run, taxpayer-funded healthcare monopoly, in this editorial a paper that’s always telling us what to do doesn’t take an explicit position.  I could be wrong, but I suspect the Times is waiting for Democrats to cram through a healthcare bill so it will know what to support and talk up.
