This editorial is pretty much a mess from beginning to end, so I’ll stick the final paragraph. The editorial says, “The best way Americans can counter this is to emulate the Israelis. As Gregory F. Treverton, a former vice chairman of the National Intelligence Council, has written, the Israelis clean up as fast as possible after an attack. ‘Thus, life can go on, and the terrorists won’t be given a victory. By contrast, Americans let fear of terrorism stop life. So the terrorists win.’”
Does the Times expect even a marginally informed person to believe the Israeli approach to terrorism is simply to “clean up as fast as possible?” Israel and its airline, EL AL, implement the most stringent airplane security in the world. Did the Times forget the West Bank barrier (400+ miles when complete) Israel is building in response to terrorist bombings?
