The editorial failed to note Mountain State University in Center Township.

While fundraising campaigns to help with tuition are fine, the editorial failed to mention a way to make existing scholarship and other tuition aid programs go a lot further.  Why not press schools to reduce their expenses so tuition can be affordable?  The problem with colleges is very similar to that of medical care, too much government interference in the education market.  There is too much taxpayer money going to colleges via direct funding, grants to students, and subsidized loans.  As a result, schools don’t have a real strong incentive to keep costs down because students aren’t as cost-conscious as they would be if they had to pay full tuition out of their own (or their parents’) pockets.
