Beyond the cheering; Editorial; Beaver County Times; July 4, 2010.

While the editorial told us “Andrew J. Bacevich [is] a professor of history and international relations at Boston University,” it left out a lot.  According to Wikipedia, Mr. Bacevich is a retired career Army officer, “has been ‘a persistent, vocal critic of the US occupation of Iraq, calling the conflict a catastrophic failure’,” and “described George W. Bush’s endorsement of such ‘preventive wars’ as ‘immoral, illicit, and imprudent.’”  Mr. Bacevich’s son was killed in combat by an IED in Iraq.  It’s interesting the Times didn’t consider this background info to be relevant enough to mention.  In fairness, neither did the original Washington Post column this editorial mostly copied.

Finally, who is cheering we’re at war?
