I covered the Barton episode in my critique of “Party line.”

In asserting Mr. Steele simply took a generally-held Republican position with his idiotic comments, apparently the Times hopes we’re uninformed.  Indeed, for the most part, Republicans have been supportive of Mr. Obama regarding Afghanistan except when they perceived him as dragging his feet regarding critical decisions.  Mr. Steele sounded like Democrats during the Bush administration and in no way represented the position of most Republicans and the Times knows it.  Why must the Times resort to deception in order to further its agenda?
