A matter of faith; Editorial; Beaver County Times; August 27, 2010.

Time and time again, Muslims (U.S. citizens and not) attack this country in the name of Islam and kill our citizens.  On top of this, there appears to be no widespread serious denunciation of the attacks by U.S. Muslims.  Most of what we get is an accusation of Islamophobia by groups like CAIR.  Despite all this, the Times doesn’t understand why many Americans believe we’re at war with Islam?  Whether or not they turn out to be right is up for debate, but why they could feel as they do is pretty obvious.

Though I don’t recall the Times reporting, you may recall the press had no trouble framing Northern Ireland’s problems as Catholics vs. Protestants even though neither group acted in the name of their religion.  Today, however, Muslims kill Americans and others in the name of Islam and we’re supposed to ignore the religion aspect.

“This hostility toward Islam and fear of Muslims has global implications because it reinforces the message radical Islamic terrorists are spreading - that the United States is the enemy of their faith.”  Even if it were true, who cares?  If our efforts to help Muslims around the world (The Balkans is just one example.) hasn’t shown our true colors, nothing will.  Finally, the Times ignores the fact that even on our most intolerant day, the U.S. is light-years ahead of any Muslim country.
