BCT Editorial – 9/1/10

This page was last updated on September 3, 2010.

It’s complicated; Editorial; Beaver County Times; September 1, 2010.  At the time I wrote this critique, the editorial appeared only in the print edition of the Times.

The editorial shows the Times doesn’t know how to deal with what is going on.

First, the editorial tries to link the Glenn Beck event with the “Tea Party movement.”  The Beck event was not a “Tea Party” event and Mr. Beck isn’t even associated with the so-called “tea parties.”  The Beck event was apolitical and the so-called “tea parties” are anything but apolitical.

Second, the editorial asks, “What does taking back our country mean, and from whom?”  When lefties used the “taking back our country” mantra in 2006 and 2008, the Times didn’t ask its question.  Why now?

Third, the editorial asks, “What does taking our country back to its roots mean?”  Anyone I’ve heard use this expression has been pretty clear.  It means following the Constitution as written and as intended by the Founders, not treating it as some “living document” to be interpreted according to someone’s personal policy preferences.

In summary, most of the editorial is a bunch of silly questions to which the Times knows the answers, but doesn’t like them.
