The purpose of this critique is to explain what allegedly happened since the term “money laundering” is highly charged.

As the editorial notes, “Under Texas law, corporate money can’t go directly to political campaigns.”  No such restriction exists on contributions from some other entities, however.  What Mr. DeLay was charged with was getting contributors to donate to organizations allowed to contribute to Texas political campaigns with the understanding those contributions would be directed to specific Texas campaigns.
