Hide and seek?; Editorial; Beaver County Times; April 24, 2011.
This is at least the third editorial since mid-2008 on the topic of publishing public notices. Previous editorials are here and here. Since this editorial is pretty much a regurgitation of the previous pieces, please read my critiques of the previous editorials for most of my comments.
The editorial says, “And while newspapers have a financial stake in this issue, informing the public is what really matters. It’s the primary concern driving our objection to the measure.” I was born at night, but not last night. We’re supposed to give the Times the benefit of the doubt regarding its motives, but it didn’t do so regarding Gov. Tom Corbett’s position on a natural gas extraction tax.
