BCT Editorial – 5/12/11

Hard workers; Editorial; Beaver County Times; May 12, 2011.

The editorial says, “Mexicans are the hardest working people in the non-Third World.  So says the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development … So much for the stereotype of Mexicans.”  Since I’m not going to waste my time researching this, for the sake of expediency let’s say this assertion is true.  When did anyone accuse Mexicans of being lazy?  Aren’t Mexicans the vast majority of our illegal aliens and aren’t we constantly told illegal aliens “do the jobs Americans won’t do?”  This is yet another example of the Times setting up a straw man to attack.  I can’t help but wonder if we’d have seen this editorial if voters of Mexican descent tended to vote for Republicans.

The editorial concludes, the report “also goes a long way toward explaining why Mexicans are so valued by American employers.”  Apparently the Times doesn’t believe it has anything to do with employer tax evasion and illegal aliens accepting very low wages in exchange for not being deported.
