Protecting privacy; Editorial; Beaver County Times; September 15, 2011.

If you believe the BCT is serious about “protecting privacy,” consider the following.

·       In “Road to ruin,” “Tough calls,” and “In denial,” the BCT didn’t express privacy concerns about a proposal to “equipping cars and trucks with a device that uses GPS technology to track the number of miles driven and compute the [vehicle-miles-traveled] tax owed.”  Can the BCT really be opposed to warrantless GPS tracking of suspected criminals but OK with warrantless GPS tracking of us for tax collection purposes?

·       I don’t recall any editorials expressing privacy concerns about government sticking its nose where it doesn’t belong regarding the financial full body cavity search we go through every year when we must detail every aspect of our finances for multiple levels of government (income taxes, property taxes, wage taxes, etc.).

·       I don’t recall any editorials expressing privacy concerns about government access to our healthcare records required by government programs like Medicaid, Medicare, Obamacare, et cetera.
