Candidates must unite; Charles T. Adamski; Beaver County Times; April 18, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“After seeing and hearing about ‘Decision 2008’ for what seems to be an eternity, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama must unite under one ticket.

“Their agenda seems to be almost identical.  With both on the same ticket, they would be unbeatable.”

[RWC] Sure.  Each would need to spend so much time watching his/her back they wouldn’t have time to address the Republican nominee.

“In my opinion along with others, Clinton should be on the top of the ticket because she has the most experience.”

[RWC] What is the relevant experience?  Whenever Mrs. Clinton makes some experience claim, the people actually involved refute her assertion.

“If either of the two were either voted off or dropped, it could be disastrous for the Democratic Party.  The Republicans would win, and it would be more war games, more good men being killed and the country going further into debt.”

[RWC] “[W]ar games?”  Does Mr. Adamski really believe what’s going on in Afghanistan, Iraq, et cetera is a game?

Regarding the comment about Republicans winning “and the country going further into debt,” historically Mr. McCain has been a budget “hawk.”  That said, as a group, elected Republicans have not demonstrated they are that much better than Democrats when it comes to reining in government and spending.  There are exceptions like Mr. McCain, but they are too few and far between.
