We need to rise above bigotry and hatred; Nayyar Ahmed - Member, Muslim Writers Guild of America; Beaver County Times; June 14, 2016.

According to his profile on LinkedIn, Mr. Ahmed is a “Postdoctoral Research Associate at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.”  Mr. Ahmed spammed his letter to at least three newspapers.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“There are no words to describe the senseless and barbaric act of violence committed in Orlando on the night of June 11.  As members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, we condemn the Orlando shootings in the strongest terms and show our solidarity with the families of the victims and their loved ones.”

[RWC] Referencing the title, which may have been written by the BCT, who are “We?”  “We” didn’t murder 49 (so far) and wound another 53 defenseless people, Omar Mir Seddique Mateen did.

As you read this piece, see if you notice what Mr. Ahmed didn’t say.

“Such random acts of violence carried out by lunatics like Omar Mateen do not represent the majority of Muslims who are loyal and peaceful citizens of America.  Prophet Muhammmad (saw) taught the world that love of one’s country of residence is part of faith.”

[RWC] Mateen’s murder spree was not a “random act of violence.”

I accept “lunatics like Omar Mateen do not represent the majority of Muslims who are loyal and peaceful citizens of America,” for now.  That said, if it’s not already happening, we need to see evidence of “Muslims who are loyal and peaceful citizens of America” doing something to stop future Omar Mir Seddique Mateens.  Simply making post-massacre statements offering condolences and asserting the Omar Mateens of the world “do not represent the majority of Muslims who are loyal and peaceful citizens of America” won’t cut it.

What if U.S. law allowed the execution of homosexuals?  “In Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, homosexual activity carries the death penalty.”

“Muslims are passing through the holy month of Ramadhan during which Islam requires one to be engaged in worship and charitable acts with increased focus during Ramadhan.  The prophet Muhammad (saw) taught, ‘If any one of you is fasting, let him not utter obscenities or act in an ignorant manner, and if anyone insults him or wants to fight with him, let him say, I am fasting’ (Bukhari).  Mass murdering countless innocents aside, even argumentation in the state of fasting is strictly forbidden.

“Make no mistake, extremists are common enemies of mankind.  The only answer is unity.  So let’s all rise above bigotry and hatred to forward the narrative of humanity and not extremism.”

[RWC] As I wrote in another review, “This is what we’re told after every killing of infidels by a follower of the ‘noble religion’ of Islam, ‘one of the three great book religions.’”

I’m tired of this “let’s all rise above bigotry and hatred” crap as if non-Muslim Americans are the bad guys and we’re persecuting Muslims.

Okay, did you catch what Mr. Ahmed didn’t say?  Mr. Ahmed dwelled on the violence and the Ramadan timing.  Other than in a throwaway manner, not once did Mr. Ahmed mention the targets of Mr. Mateen.  Mr. Ahmed didn’t mention Islam’s position on homosexuals.

What if U.S. law allowed the execution of homosexuals?  If those in Pulse had been executed by the government – not by a civilian - and outside of Ramadan, would that have been okay?  According to Wikipedia, “In Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, homosexual activity carries the death penalty.”
