You can’t back war and be pro-life; Sam Allen; Beaver County Times; September 21, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I’ve never understood how Republicans get away with calling themselves pro-life.”

[RWC] I hate to break the news to Mr. Allen, but unfortunately not all Republicans are anti-abortion, just as not all Democrats are pro-abortion.  For the record, I’ve referred to my position as being anti-abortion, not pro-life.

If you believe this letter is about people using the term pro-life instead of anti-abortion, you’re mistaken.

“The term is not only self-righteous, it is totally inaccurate.  By definition, these people support the war in Iraq, a pointless conflict that has destroyed tens of thousands of innocent lives.”

[RWC] Would it be OK to be anti-abortion and for World War II?

“For those who support this war to call themselves pro-life is an Orwellian perversion of the English language.  Using the term anti-abortion would be much more honest and accurate.”

[RWC] Hmm, did you notice Mr. Allen doesn’t address the term “pro-choice?”  Does anyone want to bet Mr. Allen considers “pro-choice” to be “honest and accurate?”

“But pro-life?  This is the essence of hypocrisy.”

[RWC] Mr. Allen forgot to mention capital punishment.  Seriously, when folks like Mr. Allen claim being anti-abortion is incompatible with supporting a war or capital punishment, you know they can’t defend their pro-abortion stand.  Note, I assume Mr. Allen is pro-abortion because he didn’t say otherwise.
