Bush did Iran’s work; Vince Avedon; Beaver County Times; October 30, 2005.

As you read this, remember Mr. Avedon once wrote that a high school student who showed interest in enlisting in the Marines as a “was probably brought up to be a two-faced traitor to his country.”

Note the disrespect for President Bush.  Not once does Mr. Avedon refer to George Bush as president, instead constantly referring to him as George.  That’s pretty tacky.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“If you listen closely, you will hear laughter and jubilation from Tehran.”

[RWC] If there’s jubilation in Iran, it’s from the Iranian pro-democracy movement.

“Why, might you ask?

“It’s because the United States did its dirty work for free.”

[RWC] Yeah, I’m sure Iran’s leaders, who believe in a worldwide Islamic dictatorship, are thrilled to have burgeoning democracies on two sides, Afghanistan and Iraq.

I wonder how Mr. Avedon views the conquest of Germany during World War II.  After all, the USSR benefited by the American-led defeat of Germany, Italy, and Japan.  Oh wait, maybe I do.  Given his economic, political, and social philosophical leaning, I suspect Mr. Avedon considers helping the USSR was a good thing.

“For seven years, Iran was at war with Iraq that resulted in a stalemate.  Then, along comes George Bush to prove to the Iranians that their neighbor does not have any WMDs.”

[RWC] Didn’t liberals tell us the UN and former President Clinton proved Iraq had no WMD?  You can’t have it both ways, Mr. Avedon.

“How very nice of George to do that for them.  I’m sure the Iranians are sleeping more secure because of George.  Are you?

“During that seven-year war, the Iranians wanted to topple Saddam yet they couldn’t.

“Thanks again, George, for taking care of that for the Iranians.

“Also, during that seven-year war, the Iranians wanted the Shiites in power yet Saddam’s Baathist party held control.  Again, George comes to the rescue of the Iranians and puts the Shiites in power.

“Billions of our tax dollars were spent to make the world a better place for the Iranians, not to mention the 2,000 troops who have lost their lives.”

[RWC] Which do you think the Iranian leaders would rather have as a neighbor?  A toothless Saddam Hussein who couldn’t beat them at his “best,” or neighbors with emerging democracies supported by most of the world’s other democracies?

“If I knew how to say ‘thank you’ in Farsi, I’d include that in my Christmas card to George.”
