Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.


“According to The Associated Press (‘Iraq looking at oil surplus and big profits,’ Tuesday), the estimated revenue on Iraq oil for 2007 and projected through 2008 will reach upward of $100 billion in profits.

“And yet we continue to pay for the war and rebuilding of Iraq with American blood and treasure.

“Why?”

[RWC] $100 billion would pay for less than a month of American expenses in Iraq.  In any case, other news stories have reported that as oil revenue has grown, Iraq has tended to spend it on rebuilding and military expenses.
